Resumen

Catalog of type specimens in the Invertebrate Division, Argentine Museum of Natural Sciences. I. Porifera, Cnidaria, Mesozoa, Platyhelminthes, Nemertinea, Rotifera, Nematomorpha, Nematoda, Bryozoa, Annelida, Crustacea, and Echinodermata. The aim of this catalog is to clarify the conservation status of this important scientific heritage. All the type specimens were surveyed and their conservation status was assessed. In addition, the specimens actually deposited in the collection and their labels are compared with the information about types reported by the authors in the original descriptions. Excluding the Phylum Mollusca, the collection of the Invertebrate Division type specimens of 182 species, distributed in 410 lots. Twenty-five lots (5.7 %), as well as the type specimens of 10 species (5.2 %) reported as deposited in the collection were not found. In most cases, it was not possible to ascertain why this valuable material is missing. Two lots of the collection have great historical value: one syntype of Pontaster forcipatus and two syntypes of Leptychaster arcticus var. elongata, both described by Sladen in 1889 based on material collected by HMS "Challenger" during 1873-1876. An index of genera and species is included.
